Original Hypothesis

Consumers have too large variety of products to choose from

Real Problem

Consumers struggle with finding well-fitting clothing, partially as a result of the fashion-retailing industry.

Solution

Because we can't change the fashion industry, help users achieve a more positive body image through yoga and meditation.

User Research

I conducted some secondary research to better understand my consumers' habits

I conducted a screener survey to get a better idea of my target user.

I conducted 8 user interviews. The results are documented in this affinity diagram

I craft a user persona named "Alex Smith"

What Needs to Be Done?

We can’t change the world and start demanding fashion retailers to implement normal sizing. We also can’t tell the media and advertising industry to tear down unhealthy-looking models. We can create a platform where people can embrace yoga and meditation as part of a positive and healthy lifestyle. This platform can help users embrace a culture of acceptance, instead of promoting eating disorders.

How Might We?

1. How to help people develop a positive and healthy body image?

2. How can we help people embrace a positive and healthy lifestyle.

3. How to help people learn yoga & meditation?

4. How to help people connect with like-minded people in their community?

I create user stories and select the ones I want to use for my MVP, minimal viable product

As a user I want to..

view ways I can develop healthier habits

view resources regarding yoga and meditation

see what others are cooking/view healthy recipes

join groups with like-minded people

shop for clothes that fit better according to my height, body shape and weight

find clothes for summer events that fit better

develop more self-confidence so I can attend events

As a user I want to see where others shop

view groups for yoga, meditation and hiking to meet like-minded people

Userflows

Here are the critical routes a user will take through my app.

What are the Goals of the User. What are her Pain-Points?

I was better able to empathize with my potential users. I learned that it is important to keep the user persona in mind and address the persona’s pain points and end goals. What is it that the user persona is looking for?

Wireframes

I then create wireframes

Usability Testing

Second Round of Usability Testing Results

Navigation tabs should indicate whether it has been pressed/user is on current section.

Can user save and scroll through inspirational quotes?

“Upcoming Events” should be more visible and easy to access. It can be a drop-down on the search events page itself

Learnings

Keep it simple. It's better to focus on one thing rather than get overwhelmed!

If I had to do this project again I would be a little wiser. I would start by picking a more narrow topic like yoga, that I can focus all my efforts on. I spent months just figuring out what my product should be as I started my original project on product purchasing. This caused me to feel overwhelmed and get off track.

Does it make sense to the user persona?

I went through my product as if I was Alexa, my persona. I found that it was difficult. I noticed that during usability testing, many of my testers were also struggling. Keeping things clear and straightforward is a must regardless of however many fancy and enticing features you are offering. If the users find them overwhelming and confusing there is no point!
