Problem

People moving into a new apartment or tiny house are looking for ways to decorate their new place on a budget of around $250 dollars. These items should all have the same look and theme and no one item should be more than $50.00. The user persona, Ally, aged 23 is looking for a selection, or starter kit of “beach” inspired items for her new tiny Chicago apartment.

Solution

House2Home is an e-commerce website designed for desktop and laptop. It is designed to help people shop for a selection of items by first selecting the interior design theme they are interested in. After selecting a theme, the person can shop 4-5 Furniture Item (s).

User Research

Ally, 23wants to design her new tiny apartment in Chicago. She is looking for “beach” inspired home decor and accessories. She can’t really afford expensive items and wants to find pieces of home decor that all fit the beach theme. All items should be between $10- $50 dollars so is not looking to paint the walls or renovate the entire place with the help of an interior designer. They should be smaller items.

Next Steps

To refine this e-commerce website further, I would continue more usability testing to gain more feedback. After 1 round of testing, I synthesized what is not important to users and what helps to improve usability. Working with potential customers is valuable to me as a designer, because I hope to quickly design a website that they find user-friendly. Working in a sprint-style, I am able to quickly gain feedback and iterate on my design, without wasting countless hours of time on useless work.
